The garden that quietly funds the clinic

Cash crops and a small block of rental apartments make NDI less dependent on donor cycles — and more resilient when those cycles wobble.

Sustainability for an NGO in rural Uganda is not an abstract ESG line item; it is whether the clinic doors open next Tuesday. So we farm.

The NDI Center’s community garden and cash crops, combined with a small block of rental apartments on the same plot, generate income that funds part of our operations and supply purchases. It’s modest. It’s also the reason a patient can rely on Tuesday existing next week.
